Dynamics of regional diversification: a new approach using trademark data

This paper pilots an approach for using trademark data to study regional diversification. Bridging the respective literatures, we develop a trademarking-intensity measure that can shed new light on how different regions diversify while also accounting changing industrial structures and income levels (regional gross domestic product). The reveals density has moderate effect trademarking intensity confirms strong relationship between firm formation These effects are found vary by sector be sensitive industry-level employment turnover. Lastly, analysis indicates diversification differs sharply urban peripheral regions.
